Elizabeth Louise “Betty” Wagner Pierce

February 21, 1921 ~ August 24, 2017

On August 24, 2017, Betty passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter Beth in Belfair, WA. She was born in Pendleton, OR, on February 21, 1921, to James Madison and Bessie Cummings Wagner. She was raised in Helix, OR.

After high school, Betty moved to Weiser, ID, to attend a tech school. There she met Cleon Pierce. They were married in 1941 and moved to Ogden, UT. After Cleon returned from war, they settled in and raised a family.

Betty and Cleon were active in square dancing for many years. For a few years, Betty was the editor of the “Allemande Star”, Northern Utah’s square dance newsletter. Betty worked at the Bank of Ben Lomond and then went to work for the U.S. Forest Service, from which she retired. Betty loved to read and do word search puzzles.

Betty is survived by her son, Dan C; her daughters, Nancy (R Wane) Schneiter and Beth Shumaker; 16 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren with one more on the way; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cleon; her parents; her brother, Bob; and sister, Margaret Chapman.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at 3 p.m. at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
