OGDEN – Elizabeth Rynagh Hernon Smolcha, born July 9, 1919, died Saturday, February 19, 2011. Mother battled Alzheimer’s for many years until she finally decided to surrender. She was born and raised in Banagher, Ireland, the daughter of William and Ann Hernon.
Elizabeth married Edward R. Smolcha on August 15, 1943 and they had five children: Rowan (Marcia) Smolcha, Pittsford, NY; Robbin (Jan) Smolcha, Gaithersburg, MD; Regis (Sherrie) Smolcha, Layton, UT; Anne (David) Andrews, Syracuse, UT; Cassandra (Kenyon) Call, Ogden, UT.
She was preceded in death by her husband in August of 1988.
Elizabeth was a beloved and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was affectionately called “Lil” by all who knew and loved her. Along with being an avid reader, Mother had a gift for knitting and donated most of her creations to area hospitals. She enjoyed traveling and living all over the world while her husband served in the U.S. Air Force. She always said that after two years in one place she was ready to move on. “Mom, now you’re free to fly once more.”
We appreciate the years of kindness given to her by all of her caregivers at Mt. Ogden Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Ogden and Applegate Hospice.
Her ashes will be returned to Ireland.
Cremation entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Crematory
