Elizabeth “Betty” Christensen, 93 passed from her earthly life surrounded by her family into the loving arms of our Father in Heaven on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 after a valiant battle with cancer.
Elizabeth was born June 28, 1920 in Evanston, Wyoming to George W. and Leona Whittle Ewer.
She married Frank McPhie on July 19, 1942. Frank was a pilot during WWII. His plane was shot down over the Romanian Oil Fields in July 1944.
She married the love of her life, Sophus Arnold Christensen, Jr., on April 4, 1948. Their marriage was later solemnized at the Ogden LDS Temple. Elizabeth was a member of the LDS Church and practiced church teachings showing and sharing her faith every day of her life. Elizabeth was actually a convert to the church and was baptized in the Bear River at the age of 14. She served in several positions that included President of the Evanston 3rd Ward Relief Society, primary teacher and she also served in the Relief Society teaching several different classes over the years and serving as a visiting teacher. She and Arnold served an LDS temple mission in 1991 at the Denver Colorado Temple.
She loved her family and was able to visit with all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren prior to her death.
Elizabeth was the mother of three children: Maryee C. Otero, Roy; Ruth Anne Mamman, Roy, and Arnold Karl Christensen who passed away at 18 months old. She had 6 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She has one sister Joyce Bond, Laffeyette, Colorado and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Arnold, her son Karl, grandson Sean, grandson Arnold Lambert, son-in-law Paul Otero, Jr., sister Francis Johnson, “sister”- cousin Louise Waters, and sister-in-law Ruby Miller.
The family would like to thank Dr. John Hemmersmeier for his tender loving care, Dr. Carl Gray and staff at Utah Hematology Oncology office and the staff of A Step Forward Hospice for their excellent care.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 24, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sandridge Ward, 4900 S. 2000 W., Roy, UT. Friends may visit family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 W. 5600 S. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Evanston City Cemetery, 526 County Rd., Evanston, WY 82930.
