Elizabeth “Liz” Zampedri

Elizabeth Ann Zampedri, 90, passed away due to natural causes on January 29, 2016 surrounded by her family. Liz was born on October 16, 1925 in Perham, Minnesota. She was the oldest of three daughters of Art and Kathryn Hemmelgarn. She graduated from Perham High School in 1943, and attended the College of St. Catherine’s School of Nursing in St. Paul, Minnesota. Liz did her training at St. Mary’s Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota graduating in 1946.

She accepted a Registered Nursing position in Ogden, Utah in 1946, helping to open the St. Benedict Hospital. After a year of working, she was about to return to home but met her soul-mate, Mario. They were married in October of 1949 at St. Joseph Parrish in Ogden, Utah.

Liz worked at St. Benedict Hospital from 1946 to 1985, then at the IRS in the health unit for five years, retiring in 1990.

Mario and Liz enjoyed their cruises and their trips back to Minnesota to see her family. She is a lifelong fan of the Minnesota Vikings. Mario passed away in 1999.

She is survived by her children Mike (Colleen), Tom (Cydne), Mario (Butch) (Sue), Kathy (Dennis) Montgomery, Rick (Sue), Bill (Tawna), and Jodi (Brian) Cleveland; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way; sister, Mary (Bill) Smith; sister-in-laws, Emma (Zampedri) Highlander and Norma Zampedri.

Liz was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sister, Rose Marie Wittmer.

Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 514 24th St. Friends may gather with the family on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary at 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.

The family would like to thank Dr. Hemmersmeier, Lotus Park Assisted Living, and Pineview Rehab.
