CLEARFIELD a" Ella Watterson Smith Getty, 96, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2008 in St. George, Utah. She was born in Benson, Cache County, on June 11, 1911.
Her parents were James Lamoni and Caroline Larsen Watterson. Her Pioneer Grandfather, William Watterson Jr. from Isle of Man, England, came across the plains in 1850.
She married Elwin W. C. Smith May 1, 1930. They moved to Clearfield in 1936. He died November 25, 1953. They had four daughters: Maxine (Jerry) Green, Rio Vista, CA; Norinne H. (Dean) Walton, St. George, UT; Laura (Carl) Warren, Salt Lake City, UT; and Trudy (Gary) Larkins, Santa Clarita, CA.
She married Frederick C. Getty on October 4, 1957. He died January 19, 1990.
She is survived by her four daughters and one sister, Dorothy W. Stringham of Garden City, UT. Her posterity has grown to 14 Grandchildren, 55 Great-Grandchildren, seven Great-Great-Grandchildren. Plus many other nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, eight brothers and one sister.
Ella was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved the church, she taught her daughters to love it too. Mother was sealed to our Father and her daughters, who were all married in the temple. She has served as Relief Society President, Counselor, Secretary Magazine Agent and as a Visiting Teacher for 58 years.
She has been President of the M.I.A. and held other positions in Ward and Stake Primary and Sunday School. She was a member of the ''Clearfield Literary Guild'' joining in 1938, held offices of President, Counselor and Secretary.
She was a Charter Member of the first ''Daughters of Utah Pioneer'' camp in Clearfield. She was an officer in Davis County D.U.P. She worked in the Assessor''s Office in Farmington. She was a Registration Agent and Judge of Elections for many years. She was a member of Clearfield Senior Citizens. Her hands were never idle. She had beautiful flowers and a bountiful garden.
Her ''resting time'' was spent sewing quilts and crocheting. She was a great cook.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 25, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Rd. Friends and family may call Monday from 12:00 to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary.
Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Chancellor Gardens for all the many years of loving care they gave their mother.
