Ellen Mae Jones
“Together Again”
On Independence Day, July 4, 2009, Ellen Mae Dame Jones left her tired and worn out body, to be with her Father in Heaven, and family members who have gone before.
She was born April 14, 1921 to Joseph Ezra and Charlotte Bushnell Dame and raised on a small farm in Meadow, Utah. She worked very hard on the farm, raising pigs, lambs and cows and cutting hay. She learned from her mother to be self reliant, and thrifty. She moved to Salt Lake to study bookkeeping, where she was courted by Vernon Orgill Jones. They were married August 16, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple, raised four sons and settled in Bountiful. She was a successful businesswoman and made many dear friends while she worked at Farmer’s State Bank and Linford Glass.
A dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mae served in Relief Society and Sunday School callings, as well as ward librarian for many years. She was proud of her pioneer heritage, an avid genealogist and active in her company of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers.
She will be remembered for her selfless and loving support of her husband, Vernon, who passed away May 3, 2000, her four sons and their families.
Mae is survived by her sons: Allan (Judy), Brent (Anne), Mervin (Janet), and Zann, as well as seven grandchildren and ten and a half great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and six siblings: Alton Dame, Helen Dame Jensen, Orren Dame, Roland Dame, Evelyn Dame Reed and Verla Dame Pedersen.
Graveside services will be held at 12 noon, Monday July 13, 2009 at the Riverton Cemetery, 1500 W. 13200 S. Riverton, Utah. Friends may call Sunday, July 12th from 6-7:30 pm at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E.
