Ellen Larsen Smith passed to life eternal October 29, 2021 at age 85, in North Ogden. Ellen had lived in North Ogden for 60 years.

Ellen was born January 29, 1936 in Preston, Idaho, to Alfonzo Comish Larsen and Mary Doane Larsen. She was born in a blizzard and named after her Grandmother Ellen Comish Larsen, who died four days after baby Ellen’s birth. Ellen’s family moved to Ogden when she was a child, and she was educated in the Ogden City school system. She was very involved in school, joining a number of clubs and serving in several leadership positions, including elected as the first Student Body Secretary of the (then) new Ben Lomond High School. Ellen attended Utah State University, where she pledged Kappa Delta sorority and studied secretarial science.

Ellen married Ronald Harding Smith June 29, 1956 in the LDS Logan Temple. They celebrated their 65th anniversary in June.

Prior to the birth of her children, Ellen worked as a secretary for Swift Company in Ogden, Butte, MT, Boise, ID, and again in Ogden. She later worked as a secretary at the North Ogden City offices and Weber High School, and as a secretary and court reporter in the Weber County Juvenile Court system. She also was bank teller and new accounts officer at Ogden First Federal. For many years Ellen served as secretary of the Ben Lomond High class of ’54 reunion committee. Following retirement Ellen volunteered once a week for many years as a file clerk at McKay-Dee Hospital.

Ellen was active in the LDS Church, serving in the Relief Society, as a Cub Scout leader, primary, Sunday school and young women’s teacher, visiting teacher, and with her husband served as church librarian for 25 years. She played the piano and sang in church choirs. Ellen was a keen lover of animals, especially dogs, cats and horses. She was mother to many dogs and cats over the years. Ellen loved nature and travel, with favorite trips every year to Laguna Beach and to Yellowstone.

Ellen is survived by her husband, Ron, North Ogden, and her three children: Steven (Valentina) Smith, Bucharest, Romania; Cathy (Greg) Smith Neeley, North Logan; Darren (Laura) Smith, American Fork. She also is survived by seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Preceding in death are her parents and brother, Robert D Larsen.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 2 p.m., at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 North Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Saturday from 1 to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery, North Ogden.

In lieu of flowers Ellen’s family suggests a contribution to the Humane Society.

Ellen was grateful for the many good friends and family members she was blessed to know. She also was thankful for the excellent care and concern she received in later years from doctors, nurses, church members and family.
