Elmer Morris Hogge

1926 ~ 2019

Elmer Morris Hogge of Fruit Heights, Utah, died peacefully on September 17, 2019 at the age of 93; surrounded by family and friends.

Elmer was born on May 16, 1926, to Charles Alexander and Lyda Elizabeth (Fuller) Hogge in Eden, Utah.

Elmer is survived by his loving wife, Betty Louise (Frazier) Hogge, and children: Gary Elmer Hogge (Jennifer), Louise Murphy (Brian), Rebecca Jorgensen (Robert), Amy Sammons (Charles), Camille Hogge, and Elizabeth Christensen (Richard). He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Melba Hogge (Floyd).

Elmer is preceded in death by his mother and father, and his siblings Marelda Cutler (Lowell), Melvin Hogge (Lee), Donna Hogge, Ethel Bullock (Robert), Floyd Hogge, and Bethene Hogge.

Elmer graduated from Weber High School in 1944 and then served eighteen months in the United States Navy toward the end of World War II. He then served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the British Mission from 1947-1949. After returning home from his mission, he attended the University of Utah and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Elmer and Betty were married in the Salt Lake City Temple on October 14, 1960, and began their life together raising their loving family. He worked as a mechanical engineer for both Sperry and Boeing on various missile projects including the Sergeant Missile and the Minuteman Missile. However, his favorite hours of work were in his garden and orchard. He retired in 1991 from Boeing so that he could spend his time doing what he loved.

Elmer faithfully served in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He and Betty also served as ordinance workers in the Bountiful Temple for 16 years. His steady example of being a disciple of Jesus Christ influenced all those who knew him. He was very dear to his family and friends and will be greatly missed.
