Elsie M. Clark Ray Adams
OGDEN a" Elsie M. Clark Ray Adams, 83, passed away Friday, August 7, 2009 at Ogden Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her family members.
Elsie was born April 22, 1926 in Lander, Wyoming, to Walter A. and Sarah Tweed Clark. Growing up in a frontier town (and later a small homestead), Elsie and her sister learned to herd cows, fetch water, shoot game, and work very hard for the necessities of life. After graduating from Lander High School in 1944, she moved to Ogden, Utah and began working at Hill Field during the last years of World War II. Elsie was voted Miss Hill Field in 1944.
She married Emmett L. Ray on November 18, 1944, in Farmington, Utah. They lived in South Weber, Nyssa, Oregon, and Ogden. They had two sons. Elsie and Emmett had been married 27 years when he died suddenly on December 3, 1971. On December 21, 1978, Elsie married Raymond H. Adams.
Elsie continued her career at Hill Air Force Base working in overseas placement and retired after 31 years of service.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Elsie and Ray enjoyed their retirement years bowling, golfing and traveling, especially to Las Vegas where she always won. She enjoyed cooking, baking, reading and visiting with her family.
Surviving are her husband, Ray; sons, Ronald C. and Connie Ray, Mountain Green; Stephen E. and Nancy Ray, West Haven; 8 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; stepsons and stepdaughters, Jim and Juli Burkdoll, Kim and Lori O''Dell, Greg and Debbie Adams, Gary and Kathy Adams, and Glen and Sydne Adams; 12 step-grandchildren and 9 step-great-grandchildren; niece, Gayle Ashby and nephew, Alan B. Taylor.
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Emmett, sister, Ada Taylor, brother, Donald Clark, two infant brothers, and nephew, Henry Taylor.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
A family visitation will be held at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., on Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Primary Children''s Medical Center, 100 North Medical Dr., Salt Lake City, UT 84113, or a charity of your choice.
