Elsie Mae Lewis
1930 - 2009
Loving mother, sister, aunt and friend, Elsie Mae Lewis, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2009, surrounded by family and friends at the age of 79. Elsie will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Elsie was born on January 18, 1930 in Scotia, California to Edwin and Clintie Lewis. She was the fifth of five children. Elsie was married twice in her lifetime, both spouses of whom are deceased. She has one son by the name of Thomas. Elsie worked as a department manager in the accounting section of an inventory company much of her life with many employees working under her. She also worked as a motel manager in many cities in California. In July of 2008 Elsie was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully as a visiting teacher and enjoyed many church activities. She always had a bright and cheerful smile for everyone and loved getting to know others. Elsie enjoyed spending time with family and friends, reading, crossword puzzles, long walks, listening to music, singing, watching old movies, going for long drives and the beauty of her surroundings.
Elsie is survived by her son Thomas Bowles; sister Evie Pasco; niece Andrea (Dennis) Coats; nephews Frank (Mary) Parker, Martin (Dorothy) Earle, Bill (Laura) Earle; many grandnephews, grandnieces, great-grandnephews and great-grandnieces. Preceded in death by her father and mother; brothers Scott Lewis and Roy Lewis; sister Thelma Earle; nieces Marian Antognazzi and Rochelle Simms. The family would like to thank the staff at Thatcher Brook Rehabilitation, Davis Hospital fourth floor staff, Dr. Vercillo and the staff and volunteers of Inspiration Hospice for their loving care. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or favorite charity.
A service to celebrate Elsie’s life will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2009, at 12 noon at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Summerfield Ward, 60 W. Gordon Avenue, Layton, Utah. Funeral services under the direction of Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Road.
