ELSIE PULOS RICE
1928 – 2016
Elsie Pulos Rice passed away on February 19, 2016 in Salt Lake City, surrounded by her family. She was born to loving parents, John and Sylvia Pulos on May 7, 1928 in Quealy, Wyoming, a mining community near Rock Springs, Wyoming. Elsie was the youngest of five girls. She had wonderful memories of growing up in the small community of Quealy, attending the two room school, skiing on barrel stays and many other childhood escapades with her sisters. The family eventually moved to the big city of Rock Springs where she attended high school.
Elsie married Earl G. Rice on January1,1948 in Rock Springs. They moved to Salt Lake City in the early 1950s and settled in the Rose Park area where they raised two sons, John and Michael. Elsie and Earl enjoyed traveling and made many trips to California, the west coast and Jackson Hole. They were always supportive of their sons and spent a great deal of time with their beloved grandchildren. Elsie operated an interior design business for many years. She took great pride in her interior design work and particularly enjoyed the interaction with her clients. Elsie also enjoyed chatting on the phone, eating out, and shopping. She loved the ocean and cherished her one trip to Hawaii. The last few years of Elsie’s life were challenging as she was unable to be active and self-sufficient.
Elsie is survived by sisters Mary (Silvio) Zancanella and Helen Pulos of Rock Springs, Wyoming, sons and daughters in law, John (Cathy) and Michael (Selina), grandchildren Aimee (Kevin) Ainsworth, of Conifer, Colorado, Nicholas (Marian) Rice, Tiffany Beagley Schwemmer, Sarah Beagley and Josh Beagley, all of Salt Lake City. She is also survived by great grandchildren Elizabeth Ainsworth, Laurel Ainsworth, Alex Ainsworth, Anthony Schwemmer, Ava Schwemmer and Owen Rice. Preceded in death by her parents, husband, Earl and sisters Sylvia Pulos Riskus and Georgia Pulos Hanten. The family will celebrate her life in a private gathering.
