Elva Lynn Hansen returned to her heavenly family on the evening of Tuesday April 26th, 2022, due to complications from a fall. She was surrounded by her loving husband and children. Elva led a full and meaningful life where she showed her family and the world just what unconditional love means.
Elva was born to Clarence & Renee Simmons on September 12, 1954 in Whittier, California. She was born the 3rd of 7 children and always knew that she wanted a big family for herself when she grew up. Elva graduated from Whittier High School in 1972. Shortly thereafter, her family moved to Santa Maria, California. There, she met her soon-to-be sweetheart and husband.
Elva and Arden were married in the Los Angeles LDS Temple on September 20, 1974. Almost immediately they began their forever family together. Elva considered herself lucky to be blessed with six beautiful children. She never saw herself leaving California, but when Arden received a job offer
in 1996, they made the very difficult decision to move the family to Bountiful Utah. She would live out the rest of her life throughout the Utah Wasatch Front.
Elva graduated from Allan Hancock College in the Dental Assistant program. She worked as a Dental Assistant and a bookkeeper before starting her 22-year career at Delta Airlines in 1998. Working for Delta gave her the opportunity to travel around the world like she always wanted to. She made many lifelong friends at Delta that traveled with her. If you asked where her favorite place to travel was, she’d respond with “Paris! Oui Oui!”
Being an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was an integral part of Elva’s life. She had a strong testimony of The Gospel and always led by example. She held several esteemed callings within The Church. She served as the Relief Society President, Primary President,
Ward Chorister, and Young Women’s Counselor. She loved helping young parents during sacrament by entertaining their restless kids. She considered being a wife and mother to be her highest calling.
Elva loved to sew. She prided herself in making all of her kid’s Halloween costumes, matching outfits, and church dresses. She was an amazing cook and baker who could just pull the recipe out of thin air. Her favorite color was red, and she could never be wearing enough of it. Elva could always be found shopping for shoes.
Elva is survived by her loving husband, Arden; her five children, Courtney (Brian), Shaun, Randi (Dallas), Trevor (Jake), Melissa (Nick); and six grandchildren, Britney, Madison, Skyler, London, Ellie, and Ainsley. She was preceded in death but is now reunited with her baby girl Janay, and with her parents.
The family would like to thank all the health care workers at Davis Hospital, Thatcher Brook, and the U of U hospital who gave their wife & mom exceptional care.
