Elva A. Weaver
OGDEN – Elva Idell Atkinson Weaver, 82, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, December 30, 2007.
Elva was born August 31, 1925, in Evanston, Wyoming to Otis and Geneva Atkinson, the second of four children. Her childhood was spent in Almy and Evanston where she attended school, graduating from Evanston High School, Class of 1943. She furthered her education attending BYU and Weber State College.
While living in Ogden she worked at the Jesse M. Chase Company where she met her sweetheart, Jay P. Weaver. They were married March 12, 1947, and were later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together they raised five children in a home filled with love and laughter. They loved to travel in their motor home, especially to Flaming Gorge; but their children and grandchildren were the joy and center of their lives. Elva loved being a mother and serving her family. She also loved to cook (her favorite hobby was reading cookbooks!).
She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Elva loved playing the piano, especially in the children’s Primary, where she played for 13 years.
Elva had a gift for cultivating lifelong friendships. When Jay passed away May 28, 1995, Elva faced her new life as a widow with grace and dignity.
Elva is survived by her five children, JayAnn (Larry) Quist, Ogden; Randy (Nina), Centerville; Rory (Michelle), Smithfield; Jill (Tim) Hayman, Layton; Wendy (Phil) Laterza, Riverdale. Elva loved being grandmother to 20 grandchildren and great-grandmother to 30 great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her brother, Nilo (Betty) Atkinson, LaMesa, CA; and her sister Lela (Don) Barnard, Evanston, WY.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jay, and her sister Eunice (Gary) Horne.
