LAYTON a€" Elvira Ward Andersen, 93, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2011.

She was born March 2, 1918 in Iona, Idaho the daughter of George J. and Luella Loveland Ward.

Elvira married Lester V. Andersen on May 4, 1937 in the Salt Lake Temple. He preceded her in death on April 24, 2008.

Elvira was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served in the Young Womens Program, as Relief Society President, chorister and many other ward and stake callings.

Elvira was employed for a short time at the LDS Hospital and the SH Kress Company but spent the bulk of her years as a wonderful homemaker.

She loved knitting, crocheting, baking, serving others, reading books and spending time with her family including her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Surviving are her sons, Thayne Robert (Sharon) Andersen, Clearfield; Arben K. (Peggy) Andersen, Phoenix, AZ; daughters, Gloria Jeanne (Don) Barnhouse, Layton; Cathryn Jo (Hal) Shearer, Orem; Marilyn Sue (Lynn) Poulsen, Brigham City; 24 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, brother, Lyle Ward, ID; and sister, Hazel Haymore, CA.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband Lester V. Andersen, grandsons, David Michael Andersen, Scott Eric Barnhouse, sisters, Marlene Stucki, Leola Stucki, Vera Ward, brothers, Wendell Ward, Eldon Ward and Lorin Ward.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Peacefield LDS Ward, 1589 E. Gentile, Layton. Friends may visit family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Saturday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment, Lindquist''s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.

The family would like to give thanks for the loving care given by Hearts for Hospice nurses, Erica Bauer and Cage Mikami, also Apple Village nurses and aides who cared for her.
