Elwin Andrew Petersen (Pete)
RIVERDALE – Elwin Andrew Petersen, 94, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born April 17, 1920 in Logan, Utah the son of Parley A. and Ella Blanchard Petersen. He attended school in Newton, Utah and graduated from No. Cache High School. Pete attended Utah State University and entered the United States Naval Air Corp December 4, 1941. He served two tours of duty in the Aleutian Islands, one tour of duty in the So. Pacific and retired as Lt. Commander in 1945. After retiring he graduated from Dental School in 1951 and practiced in Clearfield for 37 years.
Pete married Agnes Wynona Garrett in 1943, they later divorced. From that union there were six children, Sandra, Brooks, Gary, Karen, Thomas and Rebecca. In 1968 he married Dorothy Janette Fuelling and three more children joined the family, Jane, Janice and Joe. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple.
Pete served as Clearfield City Councilman from 1962 to 1966. He was a member of the Ogden City Golf and Country Club from 1957 to 2014. He loved golf, boating, skiing and fishing.
Surviving are his wife Jan Petersen, sons, Brooks Petersen, Gary Petersen, daughters, Sandra Ingalls, Karen Kearsley, Becky Schwinn, three step-children, Jane Martin, Janice Clark, Joe Huffaker, 20 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, sisters, Carma Hilliard, Marjorie Cantwell and Dorothy Ottoson.
Preceded in death by his parents, son, Tommy Petersen, brothers, Dennis, Leon, Tom, Claude Petersen, and sister Betty Jean.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 15, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
The family would like to thank Dr. McKinzie, Dr. Hansen and Dr. Mansfield for their many years of exceptional care. Also Intermountain Hospice with special thanks to Don, Kathy and Vicky.
