Emily Sarah Merkley Robinson

Emily Sarah Merkley Robinson of Bountiful, Utah was born March 16, 1979 to David Merkley and Marian Stephenson Merkley of Layton. Her life came full circle when she passed away in their home, surrounded by loving family, on September 6, 2023, after a long struggle with colon cancer. She was 44 years old. 

Emily graduated from Layton High School in 1997 and received an associate’s degree from Salt Lake Community College in 2001. She spent her career serving others, with compassion and selflessness, as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant. 

Emily was fearless and lived her life to the fullest. She treated every friend and family member with loyalty and devotion. She celebrated every holiday and remembered every birthday. In her short time on earth, Emily visited 47 states and 29 countries. She scuba-dived the Great Barrier Reef, swam with whale sharks in the Philippines, and cared for elephants in Thailand, among many other adventures. She was also a loving pet parent to 24 guinea pigs over the years.  Emily was a voracious reader, watcher, and listener, with equal enthusiasm for Jane Austen, the X-Men, and the Beatles.

On July 27, 2021, Emily married Dan Robinson of Bountiful in the Bountiful LDS Temple. Though they had only two years together, they packed their brief time with love, concerts, and FanX.

Emily is survived by her husband, Dan Robinson; parents, David and Marian Merkley; siblings Ellie Warnick (Bryan), Sam Merkley (Emily Neil), Anna Bardsley (Spencer), and Seth Merkley; six nieces, seven nephews, and two honorary nephews; beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and many loving, lifelong friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Doug and Elna Stephenson and Phil and Elva Merkley, her uncle Dan Merkley, and her cousin Josh Merkley.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 Fairfield Rd in Layton, Utah. Friends may visit with family on Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.

She will be interred at the Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton.
