Emma Martinez Carpio

December 24, 1922 ~ October 5, 2017

Emma Martinez Carpio, wife, mother, and grandmother passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2017. She was 94.

Emma was born the youngest of five children to Arcenio Martinez and Nepumusena Sandoval Martinez on December 24, 1922 in Park View, New Mexico.

Emma married her sweetheart, Ralph Carpio on August 19, 1945. He passed away on June 17, 1992. Together they built a beautiful life in Roy raising their children and grandchildren.

Family was everything to Emma – she loved attending birthday and holiday parties and visiting with friends and family. Emma had a special place in her heart for all of her grandchildren. She was also extremely close to her nieces and nephews, she considered them as her own.

She was a dedicated member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where she was a Eucharistic Minister. In 2001, Emma was honored by the Diocese of Salt Lake City Council of Catholic Women as one of the Women of the Year. Emma loved to attend daily mass and help her church in any way she could.

The majority of Emma’s life she was a home maker; she enjoyed sewing, quilting, ceramics, needle point, cooking and baking for her family. Emma was a petite woman with a feisty spirit. She always had a huge smile, a hug and a kiss for you when you saw her. She will be missed beyond measure.

She is survived by her children, Clarissa (Donald) Gutierrez, Chena (Robert) Wright, Connie Denaster, Ralph J. Carpio, and Karianne (William) East; and her many grandchildren. She is preceded by her parents, husband, Ralph; sisters, Sophia Valdez and Theodora Martinez; and brothers, Rosenaldo Martinez and Trancito Martinez; and grandson, DJ Valdiviezo.
