Emma S. Maki January 22, 1921 a€" December 10, 2011

Emma S. Maki left this earthly existence on December 10, 2011 and has reunited with her loving husband and beloved daughter. She was born on January 22, 1921 in Ft. Morgan, Colorado, a daughter of Henry Schmer and Katrine Bauer. She graduated from Ft. Morgan Junior-Senior High School in 1938. She lived in Denver, Colorado for three years before moving to Ogden in 1941 to work at Hill Air Force Base. There she met Urho Maki whom she married on June 30, 1943.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she and Urho were active with Boy Scout Troop 20 for many years. She was a Boy Scout den mother and a Girl Scout leader, as well as a day camp teacher at Mt. Ogden Park. She was skilled at sewing and knitting, making clothing and sweaters for her daughters and herself. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, encouraging her children in religion, education and enjoying life.

Her pastimes included bowling where she was a secretary for several leagues. She was an avid reader throughout her life. She played bridge with friends, achieving a Life Master status. Her happiest times included summer vacations with Urho and their children in a truck and camper, touring most of the western United States. Later in their lives, Emma and Urho traveled to Mexico, Alaska, Europe, Scandinavia and Russia.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Jule Kay Maki and her husband Urho Maki. She will be greatly missed by her children Robert (Christine) Maki, Rancho Cucamonga, California, MaryAnn Guy, South Ogden, Utah, Karen (Ed) Crist, Corvallis, Oregon, and James (Dorre) Maki, Roy, Utah; grandchildren Justin, Cyndee, Todd, Jake, Noelle, Shane and Chelsea Maki, Kim Elliott, and Heidi and Brian Guy; and great grandsons Kohen Maki and Gage Branin.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Family will visit with friends from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.

The family thanks the caring staff of Legacy House of Ogden and Mt Ogden Health and Rehab, with a special thanks to Bonnie of Applegate Hospice, for all their loving kindness.
