Emogene Peterson Clayson

May 30, 1922 ~ February 5, 2016

Our loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Emogene (Jean) Peterson Clayson, 93, peacefully returned home on February 5, 2016, surrounded by devoted family members.

Jean was born on May 30, 1922, in Salmon, ID, to Brigham and Ethel Pugh Peterson.  At a young age, she moved to Santaquin, UT, where she graduated from Payson High and then attended BYU.  She married her sweetheart, Wayne L. Clayson on August 30, 1941 in Yuma, AZ.  They were sealed one year later in the Salt Lake Temple.  They have been married for 74 wonderful years.

During World War II, Jean moved with Wayne as he served in the Army before being ordered to the European Theater.  Jean loved and served her country as much as Wayne did.  Her wartime service included being involved in the war bond drive, working at the BF Goodrich plant in California making deicers for our war planes, and working at a clothing factory in Alabama making clothing for our servicemen.  After the war, Jean and Wayne settled in Provo for a few years before making their final move to Ogden and raising their three daughters. Emogene retired after 18 years with the IRS.

Jean loved traveling with Wayne and their children and then their grandchildren.  Their travels covered many states in the U.S., the U.K., Europe, Mexico, and the Caribbean.  In their later years, Jean and Wayne spent many winters in Yuma, AZ, and then Mesquite, NV.

Jean loved gardening.  She knew the names of most flowers, loved planting a wide variety each year, and then enjoying them from her backyard where many happy hours were spent with her family.  Jean was active in the LDS church and served in many callings.  She especially loved serving the young women, and throughout the years touched many young women’s hearts.

Jean is now enjoying her reunion with her parents, her brother, Major General Chesley G. Peterson, and sister, Wyona.  She is survived by her husband Wayne; daughters Sandy (Dr. Mark), who is serving an LDS mission in Manila, Philippines; Colleen (Steve) of Las Vegas; and Jan (Richard) of North Ogden; 17 grandchildren; and 67 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd. Friends may gather with the family on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. at the mortuary.

Interment will be held at 2:30 p.m. Santaquin City Cemetery.

Special thanks to Heidi and Rhonda of Advanced Care AFI and Dr. Allen and staff for their loving care of our wife and mother.
