Erla Kay Wilde Norman
Our sweet mom passed away early Wednesday morning July 31, 2013 of natural causes. She was born April 11, 1937 to Glenn Wallace Wilde and Erla Wood. She was raised and lived most of her life in Layton and graduated from Davis High School.
On September 2, 1955 she married her high school sweetheart Jess Roger Norman in the Salt Lake Temple, they later divorced.
Mom was a member of the LDS Church and served in numerous callings throughout her life. She was especially talented in teaching the gospel and was loved and looked up to by all whose lives she touched. She had a strong testimony of the Savior and emulated Him throughout her life.
She worked 32 years at Hill Air Force Base as an Inventory Management Specialist and a Logistics Analyst Specialist, retiring as a Program Manager in Landing Gear. Mom earned many Certificates of Achievement and awards throughout her career. She made lifelong friends during her years on base, some of whom called her "Mom" including the Base Commander.
Mom was a talented poet, loved to crochet and made several afghans for all her family members and even the Doctors and Dentist that she loved and wanted to adopt. She was an avid reader and could be found curled up with a good book any day of the week.
There''s never been a Mother more honored or revered by her children. She taught us the value of hard work, integrity, unconditional love, loyalty and sacrifice through the way she lived her life. Mom devoted her entire life to her children with never a thought to her own needs. Her children and grandchildren were her greatest joy.
She is survived by her brother Lorin Wilde and sister Diane Cottle, her children Michelle Homer (Kevin), Syracuse; Michael Norman (Julie), Vancouver, WA; Lisa Morris (Jim), Syracuse; Jeffery Norman (Carrie), Smithfield; Jennifer Gibson (David), West Point; David Norman (Allison), Brigham City; 21 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother-in-law and a nephew.
The family would like to give a special thanks to mom''s home teachers, visiting teachers and other ward members throughout the years who loved mom and helped us take care of her.
