Erma LaRue Barker Kearl

Early in the morning on December 21, 2011, Erma returned to her Heavenly Father. She passed away peacefully in her sleep. At long last, she has been reunited with her loving husband and other awaiting family members across the veil.

Erma was born on April 25, 1919 in Round Valley Utah to Amos Eli and Cora Earley Barker. She graduated from North Rich High School and later married her eternal companion, Rothery E. Kearl on April 23, 1938. Their vows were solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on May 12, 1964.

She worked for civil service at the Naval Supply Depot and Hill Air Force Base. Erma held several positions but spent much of her time in Data Automation. She retired in 1971 from Hill Air Force Base.

Erma and Rothery spent winters in Needles, California and Arizona for 14 years. They enjoyed rock hunting, traveling, fishing, gardening and golf. Erma has the distinction of getting two birdies in one shot. Her love of traveling took her and Rothery on many trips stateside as well as to Europe. They were able to see much of Italy, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Yugoslavia as well as Virginia, North Carolina, and Washington DC.

She later married Harold Peay on November 12, 1987. He died on January 13, 2000.

Erma was a very caring and loving wife and mother. She took great pride in her family and enjoyed spending time with them. Erma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, daughter, and two grandsons. She is survived by her children: Burdette (Marie) Kearl, Syracuse Utah; Colleen (Tom) Yost, Layton Utah; and Floyd (Lida) Kearl, Layton Utah. She has seven grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 30, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:45to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
