Erma Lena Martinez

Erma Lena Martinez, 69, returned to Heavenly Father on January 23, 2018 due to complications of cancer. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace.

The daughter of Abel and Eva Gallegos, Erma, was born on September 23, 1948 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was a Civil Service worker at Hill Air Force Base for 33 years before she retired in 2012.

Erma was blessed with a loving family. She married her best friend, Robert D. Martinez, on June 2, 1984 in which they spent 34 wonderful years together. Erma had 3 children, Robert had 5, and together this blended family created countless memories.

Erma cherished her grandchildren.  She never missed a football game, basketball game, baseball game or dance competition they participated in.  Erma also enjoyed going to the movies, traveling, having family gatherings and dining out.

Surviving are her husband Robert “Bob” Martinez; her daughter Rachel Romero Sanchez; her sons David Romero, Michael Romero (Angie), Carl Martinez (Laura), Steve Martinez, Robert Martinez Jr., Gary Martinez (Maria), and Raymond Martinez; her 13 grandchildren; one great grandchild, eight sisters, and six brothers.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Eva and Abel, and her son Robert Martinez Jr.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at 10 a.m. St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 4050 S. 3900 W., West Haven, Utah.  Friends may visit family Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Holy Rosary ceremony will be held at 7 p.m.
