Ernest “Ernie” Briggs Millgate Jr.

Ernest “Ernie” Briggs Millgate, Jr. passed away peacefully, Monday, December 4, 2017 at his home in West Point.

He was born February 14, 1958 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Ernest Briggs and Irene Johanson Millgate. Ernie graduated from Clearfield High School in 1976.

Growing up in West Point, Ernie spent a lot of time outside. The outdoors came to be a companion to him at an early age. Between bird hunting and big game hunting with his father as a young man, he found his passion in life. A passion he passed on to his sons and nephews. There never was a time in his life that he didn’t have at least one dog around the house. Anyone that knew Ernie knew he was a unique, loving, gentle man who did things his own way.

He served an LDS mission in California.

Over the years he worked on numerous projects for the UDWR. He spent all of his working life building houses and commercial buildings for different companies. Most recently with Center Point Construction. Over the years he acquired many friends, near and far, through guiding hunts and work. Ernie was the voice for Buck Knives, as well as BackCountry Quest hunting show for a short period of time.

He was a soft hearted man who loved his horses and dogs, which he had many over the years. He was so proud of his family’s achievements, whether it is a family member’s harvest of an animal, or recognition for excellence. Nothing brought him greater happiness than a phone call or visit from family, no matter how short it was. He was a true cowboy that cherished his two boys and taught them everything they know about hunting as well as the importance of family. His family was the only thing he ever needed, and he was happy with what he had. He was an avid hunter of deer and elk and enjoyed tracking lions and bears with his hound dogs. The happiest times were spent hunting with his boys and grandkids. Ernie was so concerned with how others were doing and never complained about anything. He gave to so many and never asked for anything in return.

Ernie’s family would like to thank everybody for their prayers and comforting words and thoughts.

Ernie is survived by his children, Steele (Stacy) of Clinton; Lonnie (Staci) of Clinton; grandkids, Makayla, Kolby, Brookelyn, Maycee, and Kinlee of Clinton; siblings, Carol Derry of Hooper; Peggy Jean (Doug) Mathis of West Point; and Lori Everett of West Point. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and a countless amount of dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Erlynn and brother-in-law Rick Derry.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 11, 2017 at the West Point 16th Ward Chapel, 4383 West 300 North. The family will meet with friends on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
