NORTH OGDEN a€" Ernest Lavar Hurst, 87, died Thursday, July 1, 2010 at a Washington Terrace care center.

He was born May 28, 1923, in Ogden, Utah, a son of Ernest Albert and Lydia Jane Nelson Hurst. He grew up in Ogden and graduated from Ogden High School in 1941.

Ernest married Elva Irene Knapp Flamm on April 14, 1942. Elva, his wife of 57 and a half years, preceded him in death. He later married Marian Williams.

He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II returning home after the war.

Ernest was a co-founder in the Hurst Lumber Company-Hurco Industries.

He was active in many local organizations including Jaycees, Elks, Ogden Golf and Country Club and various home builders, lumber dealers, and planning commission groups.

Surviving are his wife, Marian, three sons, Paul K. Hurst, Ronald L. Hurst and D. Scott Hurst, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are one brother, Robert N. Hurst, West Lafayette, IN; and one sister, Shirley Garner, Ogden.

Private graveside services will be held Saturday, July 3 at 9 a.m. at Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.

Cremation and interment entrusted to Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
