Ernest Duain Jewett
Ernest Duain Jewett, 87, died on Sunday, December 30, 2012, surrounded by loved ones.
Born September 3, 1925 to Charles Ernest and Fontella Fullmer Jewett. Duain grew up in Bingham and Salt Lake City. Spent summers in his youth in Springville with his Fullmer family relatives.
Married Dolleen Wakefield in 1958. They raised two daughters, Marilyn and Sharlene.
Attended Bingham High School. Graduated from South High School. A Navy veteran (1943-1952). A Navy pilot in WWII, went into Reserves, was called back to active duty during Korean War. Flew sea planes in Okinawa, China, and Japan doing search and rescue, and transporting personnel and cargo. During Korean War flew the whole Pacific including the Philippines. Navy pilots did their own navigating. Navigated the Pacific twenty times, and flew over it many more times.
Attended Idaho State for a degree in Naval Science. Graduated from University of Utah with B. S. degree in aero-mechanical engineering. Worked for Sperry Rand, then for HAFB working on the F-4 jets until he retired.
An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Faithfully served in many callings, including Scoutmaster, YM president, and High Priest Group Leader. He and mom loved serving in the Bountiful temple for seven years.
Duain valued education and never lost his interest in learning new skills. At various times in his life he was a pilot, an engineer, a farmer, a Master Gardener, a water-color portrait and landscape painter, a carpenter, a welder, a beekeeper, and an Eagle Scout. Went sky diving, certified in scuba diving, loved hunting, camping, hiking, water skiing and boating. He lived a full life.
Mom always supported dad in his interests, often traveling with him, she also became an equipment manager for his many hobbies and interests. Duain was a devoted husband and caregiver. He was helpful and supportive of his family.
Duain is preceded in death by his parents and daughter Susan Carol.
Survived by his wife Dolleen, daughters, Marilyn (Edward) Sughrue, and Sharlene (Don) Greenfield, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Farmington 13th Ward, 347 South 200 West, Farmington, Utah. Friends may visit family Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Farmington City Cemetery.
