Ernest W. Olson
OGDEN – On Wednesday, January 9, 2008, a beautiful winter day, the kind of day Ernie liked to be out enjoying the beauty of Mother Nature, he was called home to be with his Heavenly Father and departed loved ones.
He was born May 12, 1921 in Lovell, Wyoming, a son of Ole and Louise Jolley Olson. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Ernie attended schools in Lovell graduating from Lovell High School. Shortly after graduating from high school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was very proud to serve his country during World War II. Following the war, he attended college, graduating from Brigham Young University with a degree in elementary education. He received his Master’s Degree from Arizona State University.
Ernie taught at the Intermountain Indian School for four years then taught in Germany for the U.S. Government for three years. He returned to Utah and taught at several elementary schools in the Ogden School District until his retirement.
He lived in Prescott Valley, Arizona for 11 years returning to Ogden in 2005. During his early years he traveled all over the world.
Survivors include cousins, many nieces and nephews, Roger (Debbie) Hepworth and their children, Jennifer (Matthew) Holbrook, Jeffrey, Steven and John Hepworth, all serving LDS Missions, and Michael Hepworth. Also surviving is a good friend of many years, Helen Hepworth. He was very close to the Hepworth Family.
Preceding him in death were his parents and seven brothers and sisters. He had been married and divorced.
The family would like to thank the Legacy House Staff for their kindness and caring to Ernie for the past few months.
Friends may call at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., on Sunday from 6 to 7:30 p.m., followed by a brief service.
Graveside services will be held Monday, January 14 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road, where Military Honors will be accorded.
