Ernest Brett Schneiter
August 21, 1956 - September 16, 2022
Ernest Brett Schneiter returned with honor to his Heavenly Home on Friday, September 16, 2022, after a valiant six-month battle with brain cancer. He was born August 21, 1956, in Ogden, Utah to extraordinary parents Ernest Schneiter Jr and Sue Mattsson Schneiter. The oldest of four children, Brett had the opportunity to accompany his father Ernie to work at Ben Lomond Golf Course. This treasured tradition of working with his father continued at Riverside for the remainder of Brett’s life.
When Brett was seven years old his family moved to the Burch Creek area in South Ogden. There was never a dull moment with so many neighborhood friends, sand hills, and the creek. He attended Bonneville High School and graduated in 1974. Many lifelong friendships were made from his school days. Brett went to Dixie College in St. George, Utah on a golf scholarship and that is where he met the love of his life, Sue Esplin.
Brett served a 2-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Australia Sydney Mission; where he felt honored to learn important principles and life lessons from two wonderful mission President’s Earl C Tingey and Loren C Dunn. Shortly after returning home Brett and Sue were married in the St. George Temple for time and all eternity on June 8, 1978. Brett and Sue made their home in Riverdale with their four amazing children who he loved dearly. There they enjoyed being members of the Riverdale 2nd Ward. Brett was blessed to serve in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in various ward and stake callings. In 2016, Brett and Sue were called to serve in the Ogden Utah Temple which they both truly loved and will forever be a source of great peace and joy. Brett has a dedication and love for the gospel and was a true disciple of Jesus Christ as he freely extended charity and love to all.
Brett loved the game of golf and the many opportunities to meet new friends through golf, which seems to be a common language that brings people together. He enjoyed the many relationships made in the golf community through the Riverside Men’s and Ladies leagues, the Stanger and Schenck groups and the time spent traveling to various golf venues around the state with his best golfing buddy, Jeff Powars. Brett and Sue enjoyed traveling together. There were many trips to St. George to visit family and play golf. Some of his favorite outings included taking his family camping at various state parks or finding the scenic route to a new location with his sweetheart.
Brett had a special way of making others feel loved and important. His genuine concern was easy to see and always left those he encountered feeling better about themselves.
Brett is survived by his wife, Sue Schneiter; children, Kyle (Tracee) Schneiter, Nicole (Patrick) McGarry, Jacob (Allie) Schneiter, and Joni (Adam) Green; 12 amazing grandchildren; his father, Ernie Schneiter, Jr. (Arnell); mother-in-law, Ruth Esplin; Siblings, Julie Schnieter, Jon (Lisa) Schneiter, and Lori (Jeff) Abbott. He is preceded in death by his mother, Sue Mattsson Schneiter and father-in-law, Donald Esplin.
