Errol Murray Gardiner, 71, died peacefully, but unexpectedly in his sleep, Thursday, August 18, 2011. He had just returned from a memorable 50th wedding anniversary trip to Hawaii with his wife. The trip was a gift to them from their children. He was born July 10, 1940, in Myton, Duchesne, Utah, to Grant and Grace Murray Gardiner. On March 20, 1961, Errol married his best friend, LeiMomi Jean Watts, in the Logan LDS Temple.

He attended schools in Wisconsin and Utah, graduated from Granite High School in Salt Lake City, earned a Master of Science Degree in Mining Engineering from the University of Utah, and served his country in the US Marine Corps Reserve. His work experiences took him to Moab UT, as a Junior Engineer for Texas Gulf Sulpher Co; Bayard NM, as a Mining Engineer for US Smelting Mining and Refining Co.; Green River WY, as Mine Manager of Allied Chemical Corp.; Salt Lake City UT , as Projects Manager of mine construction for Centennial Development Co.; Price UT, as Vice President and General Manager for US Fuel Co., where he was affectionately referred to as "Big E." He completed his career working for SAIC on the Yucca Mountain Project in Nevada. He also served as President of the Utah Coal Operators Association, was a member of the National Coal Council, and Director of the Utah Mining Association.

Errol was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in the Bishopric, on the Stake High Council, as Ward Mission Leader, Ward and Stake Athletic Director, High Priest Group Leader, YM President, and Coach for volleyball, softball and basketball. One of his most enjoyable callings was working as Scoutmaster, where he helped many achieve their Eagle rank. The highlight of his church service was his experience as a temple ordinance worker in the Las Vegas LDS Temple for 6 A½ years.

He thoroughly enjoyed coaching baseball and football, was President of the Wellington Baseball Little League, and served as umpire for the Southwest Association of Sports Officials (SWASO) in Las Vegas NV. He played many sports himself including baseball, basketball, softball, golf, tennis and especially enjoyed skiing with his family. He was a war history buff, loved visiting his children in various parts of the world and watching his children and grandchildren participate in various events.

Errol was a generous giant of a man who lived a valiant life of service, dedicated to his wife and children, family, neighbors and friends. Those he left behind feel they have lost their hero, coach, mentor, scoutmaster, golf instructor and partner, leader, counselor, Dad, sweetheart and rock.

Preceded in death by his parents, he is survived by his wife and children, Donya Lei (Lance Franklin) Harvey, Teri D''Lyn Huddleston, Brett Michael (Kristin Lacey) Gardiner, Bart Travis (Jeanine Van Wagoner) Gardiner, and 17 grandchildren whom he loved very much.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 24 , at 11 a.m. at the Clinton 15th Ward Chapel, 2841 West 1300 North, Clinton UT.

The family will meet with friends on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South and Wednesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment, West Point Cemetery, 80 North 4000 West.
