Erva Barker Kunzler
February 3, 1928 ~ April 30, 2014
Erva Barker Kunzler, 86, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, April 30, 2014. Erva was born on February 3, 1928 in Pleasant View to Wilford and Eva Barker. She graduated from Weber High School where she was a majorette. On November 10, 1947, Matthew Cowley sealed Erva and Floyd William Kunzler for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She then supported her new husband as he served a two-year LDS mission.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings including Primary President, Stake Primary Counselor, Relief Society Counselor, and Ward Music and Choir Director. She also served as an Ogden Temple worker with her husband.
Erva enjoyed being involved in the election process and served for years as a voting judge and registration agent and she served as state legislative district chairperson.
She worked at the Berthena, Keeley’s Café, the old JC Penney, and was a ketchup taster in the old Ogden Cannery. She and Floyd owned and operated a country store in West Weber. Erva loved providing childcare in her home for many years and managed her and Floyd’s rental properties.
Erva was blessed with an amazing voice and a love of music. She was a vocal soloist and her singing touched many lives throughout the years. She was devoted to her Heavenly Father, her family, and community. This was demonstrated by her quiet, selfless, and tireless service to them all. She will be greatly missed. Those whose lives she touched will always remember her example.
Her children and spouses are William Read Kunzler (deceased), Gloria K. Olson (Craig, deceased), Ron R. Kunzler (Debbie), Arlo F. Kunzler (Jill), Sean L. Kunzler (Shannon), Michael P. Kunzler (Christie), Sue Ann K. Burton (Kenneth), Jed W. Kunzler (Jennifer). She has 40 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd; her son, Read; and her son-in-law, Craig.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 5, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Taylor Canyon Chapel, 1643 26 th St., Ogden. Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., and Monday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Willard City Cemetery.
