Erwin William Weil

July 13, 1942 ~ April 1, 2019

On Monday, April 1, 2019, Erwin William Weil, beloved husband and father, died at the age of 76. Erwin was born on July 13, 1942 in New York City to Erwin Wilhelm and Margaret (Hennings) Weil and was raised in Howard Beach, New York. He received his bachelor’s degree in English from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania where his love of all sports was cultivated through his role as an athletics statistician. On April 6, 1969, he married his love, Alice Grace Ryan of Queens, New York. Together, they raised four beautiful children; one son, Brent and three daughters, Kristie, Jeneen, and Heidi.

Erwin lived his life wholeheartedly in service to his family and his community. His career began in New York with Nabisco and culminated in Utah at Hill Air Force Base as a computer specialist until his retirement in 2009. Erwin spent his days being happy as a founding member of the Ogden Curling Club that was formed after the 2002 SLC Winter Olympics and was an active participant for 16 years. A man of faith, he was dedicated to serving the Catholic community in many capacities. He held the distinction of Grand Knight as a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a devoted Eucharistic Minister visiting shut-ins while living through his own adversity later in life. He was a thinker who had a life-long penchant for the pursuit of the solution to any puzzle and found great joy in reading. Long into retirement, Erwin inspired the youngest of learners at local elementary schools as a volunteer reader.

Erwin was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Rolf Weil; his father, Erwin Wilhelm Weil; and his mother, Margaret Hennings Weil. He is survived by his wife, Alice; children, Brent (Mikelle) Weil of Huntsville, Kristie (Steve) Schaefer of Derry, New Hampshire, Jeneen (Adam) Murdock of Farmington, and Heidi (Jeff) Bowden of Farr West; 11 grandchildren and many loving extended relatives.

A Funeral Mass and celebration of life will be held on Monday, April 8, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, 514 24th Street Ogden, Utah 84401. Rosary will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the church.

With enormous gratitude, the family would like to thank the caregivers at Huntsman Cancer Institute, Dr. Neeraj Agarwal, Sunny McCarrick and the staff at Bristol Hospice. The family suggests a memorial contribution be made to the Humane Society of Utah.
