Estella Chacon Atencio

December 9, 1923 ~ May 29, 2017

Ah what a joyous reunion there was on the morning of May 29, 2017 when Momma joined her loved ones before her in the Kingdom of the Lord. Estella C. Atencio began her journey here on earth on December 9, 1923. Born that winter day to Pablo and Margarita Gallegos Chacon.  She loved her time here and loved so many.

Estella was married to Juan Atencio for 34 years.  Together they leave behind three children, John (Kathy) Atencio, Carla Williams and Valerie (David) Lambert; eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Stella was a devoted mother and homemaker, always welcoming and concerned for everyone’s happiness.  In her spare time she loved bowling.  She was active on a bowling league until she was 90 years old.  She also loved a chance to go play slots in Wendover. Her love for baseball spanned many, many decades as she was a big fan of the Yankees until the Colorado Rockies were born.  Then it was a must that whatever she was doing, she would stop and watch as a faithful fan. The only thing that she loved more than these things was dancing.  She loved dancing and she is dancing still. Anyone who would visit her was always made to feel welcome as she was generous with her time and attention, always offering a meal or anything she could do for you.

Stella (Aunt Carla to many) was stricken with Dementia in the last few years of her life.  But she handled it like the true lady that she was, with humility, integrity and grace.

Loved ones waiting to welcome her home include her parents, husband, and twelve siblings.  She is survived by one very special sister, Molly Gomez.

Oh Momma, rest now.  Our wish for you is that you find peace and a freedom from your burdens and that you dance, dance, and dance.  We will see you again.  Until then, we love and will miss you dearly.  Love, your children.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the care she was given by the staff and hospice associated with Boulder Manor, Boulder, Colorado.

Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, June 16, 2017 at 10 a.m. at  St. Joseph Catholic Church, 514 24th St.  Friends may visit with family on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. with Rosary at 7 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.  Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
