Ethan J. Allen
WASHINGTON TERRACE a" Ethan Joseph Allen, 75, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, May 26, 2010, from complications of M.S.
He was born November 13, 1934 in Preston, Idaho to William and Anna Stevenson Allen.
He married Janice Kay Brown in 1954. They were later divorced. He married Arvella Fay Winder on October 28, 1960.
Ethan served with the U.S. Army and was well honored for his service. After returning from his military service, he went to work at Hill AFB. He was a dedicated employee who began his career as a warehouseman and ended as the Assistant Manager of the Air Freight Terminal. He retired in 1984.
As a young man, Dad had many escapades and often told us we couldn''t get away with anything because he had already tried it. He loved to hunt and spend time in the outdoors. He also liked to scuba dive and to travel, although those activities were cut short by his illness.
His yard was always something to behold. The weeds never stood a chance. He grew a wonderful garden and kept the yard immaculate. His garage was always so organized that he could direct you to any specific item even when he was inside the house This was very useful when his disabilities prevented him from going out there himself. He was a meticulous craftsman whose projects are still evident in his home.
He is survived by his wife, Arvella, daughters, Brenda (Charles) Brasher, Sheryll (Kerry) Slot, Barbara (David) Morley, son, E. Chris (Trish) Allen, 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, one brother, and his two sons, Joseph Guy Allen and David Scott Allen.
Dad was a man of quiet dignity who struggled with health issues for most of his adult life. He was an inspiration in the stoic way he handled them. The family would like to thank Sandy, Marcos, and all the other remarkable, caring people at IHC Hospice who helped us make Dad''s last days comfortable. We also want to express special thanks to his granddaughter, Ellie, for her loving care in the final weeks.
