Eugene was born in Salt Lake City in 1929 to Reuel and Rita Alder. He married Mary Louise Lucera on April 23, 1955, and together they lived a life of faith, family and service for the next 60 years. Their marriage serves as an inspiration and example of faithfulness and devotion, which continues to bless the lives of their children, grandchildren and generations yet to come. Gene served honorably in the Korean War in 1952, and was the recipient of the Purple Heart after being wounded in active combat.
Gene enjoyed walking, professional sports, politics and staying current on world events.
He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in many callings including a mission with his wife Mary to the Korea Seoul Temple from 1991 to 93. His love and devotion to the Korean people both through his service in the Korean War and in his mission later to Korea were evident throughout the rest of his life.
