“Let’s go fishin’!” That’s what Eugene “Gene” W. Bond, 83, would say at a moment’s notice.
He was born September 20, 1927 to Henry and Lida Bond in Ogden, Utah. He spent most of his life in Ogden and lived it fully! Gene passed away on December 9, 2010 at the Crestwood Care Center surrounded by his family.
He graduated from Ogden High School in 1945 where he developed many life-long friends.
Gene married Elaine Randall and later divorced. He married Rebecca Romander and later divorced. He married Florence Sophie Etterlein on July 16, 1976 and enjoyed 34 years of happy marriage.
He loved cars. His career focused on cars including driving trucks, selling new tires and for 22 years his most rewarding and satisfying achievement was owner and operator of Western Radiator in Ogden. He was a talented mechanic and could fix anything with or without wheels. In his quiet moments, he could be found watching John Wayne movies, eating his favorite candy and a large bowl of ice cream.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Carol Tucker and his brother Stanley Bond.
He is survived by his wife, Sophie; his son, Chris (Sandy) Bond, Mt. Green; his daughter, Jana (Ray) Tompkins, Carlsbad, CA; his son, Randy Bond, Ogden; his daughter, Jill (John) Carter, Salt Lake City; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Gene spent the last 13 months of his life at Crestwood Care Center. He met so many new friends and enjoyed his stay there. He loved the staff and was so appreciative of their kindness and compassion towards him.
Special thanks go to many friends at Crestwood Care Center and to Applegate Hospice. Their help and compassion was a tremendous blessing in the life of Gene and in the lives of his many family members.
