“From Farm Boy to Rocket Scientist”
June 27, 1939- June 19, 2021
Eugene Carlson, age 81, of Syracuse, Utah passed away on June 19, 2021, in his home. He was born in Salem Utah on June 27, 1939, to Ted and Zola Carlson.
On Valentine’s Day, he had “the right car” and met his sweetheart. On April 2,1964, after 6 weeks of dating, Eugene and Kathi eloped to The Little White Chapel in Las Vegas and later were sealed in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on December 16, 1964. He graduated from Spanish Fork High School and Utah Valley Vocational School
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served in many different callings including the scouting program, bishopric, stake auditor and nursery. He served his mission in the Eastern Atlantic States. He was president of the Golden Spike Bikers where he and Kathi traveled from border to border on motorcycle trips. He was also a member of the Great Basin Tractor Club where he restored 4 antique John Deere tractors. If anyone could fix it, Gene felt like it was him. Gene owned and worked at “Gene’s Electronics” and “Antelope Video” for many years. He was part of the Missile Program at Hill Air Force Base. He volunteered many hours at the Syracuse Heritage Museum where he served as the President of the Board of Directors.
He is survived by his wife Kathleen Carlson, four children, Mike Carlson (Jody), Suzzanne Hadley (Jon), Jennifer Nall, Shanda Johns (Dwayne), his nine grandchildren Chase (Cassie), Broc (Ryley), Sage, Brianna (Kordale), Alexis (McKay), Wyatt, Bridger, Connor, and Quincey and three great grandchildren Bentlee, Braxton, Bronx. Siblings to Jerry Carlson (Kris), Marilyn Miller, and Lamar Carlson.
Preceded in death by his parents Ted Carlson and Zola Killian Carlson, mother-in-law Ethel Erickson, and siblings Keith and Glenda Carlson, Blane, Duane and Virginia Carlson, and Ron.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 24 at 11:00 a.m. at the West Point 11th Ward, 2852 W. 300 N. West Point. Friends may visit with family Wednesday 6 to 8 at Lindquist's Syracuse Mortuary and Thursday 9:30 to 10:30 at the church prior to the services. Interment, Syracuse Cemetery.
