Eugene Dalton

Eugene Dalton 1924 – 2008 SALT LAKE CITY – Eugene Dalton, 84, passed away peacefully with his loving wife by his side, following a five year battle with cancer. He was born in Moab, Utah on May 20, 1924 a son of John William and Georgia Mills Curtain Dalton. Gene attended school in Moab, Utah. He was awarded his Eagle Scout during his high school years. After high school he graduated with honors from the Merchant Marine Academy in Long Island, New York. He served as an officer for four years in the Pacific Ocean on the USS George Clymer Ship during World War II. Known as a hard worker, Gene was an independent oil refiner and engineer. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He married Joan Gifford on January 2, 1981 in Kanab, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized for time and all eternity in the Jordan River Temple. He held many church callings during his time on earth, and faithfully served the Lord until the end. Gene was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Surviving are his wife, Joan Gifford Dalton, children, Dawn Bain, Lynda Bengtzen, David and Bobbette Dalton, Richard Bengtzen, Dr. Craig and Staci Gifford, Shelly and Howard Green, Lisa and Curt Hufstetler, and Alan and Helen Salter, 31 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his brother, Clayton Dalton, and his former wife, Thelma Dalton. He was preceded in death by his parents, John William Dalton and Georgia Mills Curtain Dalton, two daughters, Karen Jean Salter and Kristie Leigh Dalton, four brothers, Vesper, Ralph, Richard and Gale, and two sisters, Louise Perkins and Eunice Howlett. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may call at the mortuary on Friday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., where Military Honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
