Gene’s (57) journey here on earth ended unexpectedly in the early morning of Saturday, January 15, 2011. He was doing what he loved, snowmobiling with his buddies on top of Monte Cristo.
He was born March 28, 1953 to Teoflia and Toby Maestas in Ogden. Gene graduated from Ben Lomond High School in 1971.
He married Stella Martinez on May 31, 1980 in Ogden.
Gene worked for UDOT and the oilrigs in Wyoming. His greatest accomplishment was being his own boss. He had his own business as a painter. Gene took so much pride in his work no matter how small or big the job was.
He enjoyed his morning coffee buddies, snowmobiling, fishing, watching Sunday football (GO JETS), and spending time with his grandkids that he loved so much.
He is survived by his loving wife Stella (my heart is broken, you were called to Heaven way before I was ready to let you go), son, Toby (Tania), daughters, Gena, Trina, Lori (Brandon) Graham; and grandchildren, Kylee, Dakota, Deagon, Kapri, Tristen and Victoria.
Also surviving are his brothers, Steve (Chris), Gasper (Tina), Pat, Johnny, Damian (Misty) Padilla; sisters, Cynthia (Ed) Hickman, Elaine (Don) Rivera, Annette, Antoinette (Kenny) Martinez, Johanna (Macky) Aguilar, and Amy.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Reyes.
Gene was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
The family will meet with friends at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South, on Saturday, January 22, 2011 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.
Immediately following the visitation, the family would like to invite everyone for a luncheon in Gene’s honor at the Eagles Lodge located at 1530 South 1750 West, Roy, UT.
In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate donations made to any America First Credit Union under the Gene Maestas Memorial Fund, to help offset funeral expenses.
The family expresses special thanks to his friends, Life Flight and all the paramedics who tried to save his life.
As Gene would say “Just another day in paradise”.
“We miss you Dad”.
Cremation entrusted to Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary.
