Eugene S. Minardi, 94 , beloved father, grandfather, brother, co-worker, and friend to all, passed away at the George Wahlen Veteran’s Home on Friday, January 3, 2014. His love, kindness, wit, and wisdom will be deeply missed by those he touched. Gene was born in Salt Lake City on June 2, 1919 to Paul and Elaine Pirillo Minardi. As the second of four children, he spent his youth in the Poplar Grove area of that City. After graduating from West High School, Gene began his career with the Southern Pacific Railroad. In 1944, he was called to duty and served his country in the Pacific Theatre of WWII. His memories of those war years included his time in Japan as a member of the earliest occupying force that entered Hiroshima right after the deployment of the first atomic bomb. Following the war, he returned to Ogden and resumed his career with the Southern Pacific Railroad, retiring in 1983 after 41 years. In 1948, Gene married Dorothy Ruth Stone Minardi . Their vows were solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on June 2, 1971. Gene is survived by his sister, Mary C. Noffsinger; and his four children, Paul (Mary) Minardi of West Jordan, Debra (Curtis) Campbell of Ogden, Gary (Pam) Minardi of Roy, and Blake (JoAnn) Minardi of North Ogden; 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; parents; brother, John F. Minardi; and sister, Betty A. Wentz. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 8th at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South. Friends may visit family on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. where Military Honors will be accorded. The family would like to extend a special thanks to CNS Hospice and Lorena, Eugene’s Personal Care Aide.
