Eugene Perren

October 19, 1928 — December 10, 2022

Eugene passed away December 10, 2022 at the age of 94. He was born October 19, 1928 in Irwinville, Georgia to William L. and Ida Nelson Perren. He attended school in Irwin County before dropping out in 1944 to work on the farm. But after two years of farm labor, Gene enlisted in the Army Air Force. A 22-year career resulted in a dozen postings from Virginia to Alaska to Texas to Hawaii and points in between. There were also oversea tours to Formosa and Thailand. He retired as a Senior Master Sergeant in 1969.

During as assignment to Hill AFB, Gene met Bette Ann Williams, the very special love of his life, and they were married March 15, 1952 in Ogden. They had three children, Steven, Catherine, and Angela.

Subsequently to his Air Force service, the family move to Clearfield in 1972. Gene then went to work for the US Postal Service in Ogden as a maintenance supervisor until 1986.

Gene was a voracious reader and a fan of many types of music, which made shopping for presents very easy. He developed a fondness of crossword puzzles that reached the point of competitiveness. There was a period of time when he filled in the answers backwards just to make it more challenging. And, he had a very wry, subtle sense of humor that will be sorely missed.

Gene is survived by his wife, Bette; son, Steven; daughter, Angela (Wayne); grandson, Christopher (Jade); granddaughter, Cassandra (Megan); and numerous nieces and nephews in and around Georgia. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Catherine; parents; brother, Pete; and sister, Vinitta.

A private family services was held Saturday, December 17, 2022. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
