Eugene Prigmore

Eugene Charles Prigmore passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2014 at George E. Wahlen Veterans Home in Ogden, Utah.  Another valiant member of the Greatest Generation has left us. He was born July 4, 1919 in Kaysville, Utah to English immigrant parents, Charles Henry and Bertha Windross Prigmore.  His early life in Kaysville included graduating from Davis High School where he was on the first Davis High State Championship football team and helped to break some state records in track and field.  He later attended the University of Utah and fulfilled a two year LDS mission to San Diego, California.

He served in the United States Marine Corps during WWII and was assigned duty on the flagship of the South Pacific, the USS Indianapolis.  As a gunner, he participated in the battles of Tarawa, the Gilbert Islands, Palau, Yap, Woleai and the Mariana Islands.

He married Leola Webster in the Salt Lake Temple on February 9, 1945.  She passed away May 17, 2010.  Gene worked as a mechanic in the Civil Service at Hill Air Force Base and farmed his  1½ acre lot for many years.  He received the Kaysville “Unsung Hero” Award in July 1983 for his many years of service to the community.

His faith was of utmost importance in his life.  He served in the Kaysville Fifth Ward Bishopric and later was a member of the Kaysville East Stake High Council.  He also served diligently as home teacher and enjoyed many hours attending the temple.

Eugene is survived by his four daughters, Susan (John) Gailey, Richland, Washington; Mary Ann (Robert) Winegar, Layton, Utah; Kathy (Ed) Kingsley, Henderson, Nevada; and Nancy Prigmore, Salt Lake City, Utah.  He has 13 grandchildren: Heidi Nettleton, Matt, Mark, Brad and Luke Gailey, Debbie Mason, Ben, David, and Michael Winegar, Julie Pogai, Chase Kingsley, Anne Madsen, Sarah Kingsley and their families.  He has 22 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Leola, and siblings: Rose Flint, James Prigmore, Edna Milligan and Wallace Prigmore.

The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to those who helped with his care in his last few years: Allen and Iris Auger, Rebbecca Brown, Caregiver Support Network and the last difficult year, the staff of the Ogden George E. Wahlen Veterans Home and Bristol Hospice.  Special thanks to Ashley, Shaun, and Aaron.  Thank you for your love, support, and respect.

We will miss you, we will not forget the example of your dedication to God, family, and country.  2 Timothy 4:7  “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Kaysville Rock Chapel, 25 South 200 East, Kaysville, Utah.  Friends may visit with family on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at the Kaysville Lindquist Mortuary, 400 North Main, Kaysville from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the services at the church.  Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
