March 12, 1941 ~ July 4, 2021

Eva Jayne Miller VanderSteen passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on July 4, 2021. She was born March 12, 1941, in Rexburg, Idaho to Silas Chester Miller and Eva Clair Jones Miller and was the fourth of five children.

Jayne moved to Ogden, Utah with her mother Eva and brother Kent in 1944. Her mother worked at Defense Depot Ogden (DDO) until 1966 when she retired. Her father Silas passed away August 12, 1948, when Jayne was only seven years old.

Jayne met the love of her life Wayne Lewis VanderSteen in Ogden, Utah. Jayne and Wayne were married on Wayne’s 26th birthday on September 22, 1958 in Logan, Utah. Together, they raised seven children. Wayne founded Wayne’s Construction Co. as a general building contractor in 1965. Jayne filled the accountant position and oversaw the company’s bookkeeping, payroll, and taxes. Jayne later co-founded Jack ‘n’ Jills Inc. with her husband Wayne and daughter Wanette in 1987. Jayne and her daughters had a lot of fun running the shop together. Wayne and Jayne loved dancing at Sebastian’s, watching the Utah JAZZ on TV, and going camping and hunting together. Jayne loved hunting for deer with a bow and arrow while camping in Koosharem, Utah, each year she would meet there with her friends and family. Jayne was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and part of the Ladies Auxiliary with her daughter Jodie.

Jayne had a memorable sparkling personality. She loved fashion and had the most beautiful clothing, hair, and make up. Jayne sold Jafra Cosmetics for several years. She was very talented and enjoyed painting and writing poems, she would also do ceramic classes with her daughters. Jayne loved baking and is remembered for her fruit cake which was her holiday tradition. Jayne was known for her big heart and generosity. Anyone who knew Jayne loved her.

Jayne always threw the most wonderful parties for family and friends. It was her fourth of July tradition to throw a family barbecue and make homemade ice cream while the family enjoyed fireworks at their home in West Haven, Utah. She was given her favorite nickname “Hot Mama” from her son-in-law Jeff Cisowski. Jeff made sure she knew that she came into this world with a bang, and she will also leave this world with a bang, so her nickname suited her well.

She is survived by her children, Rocky VanderSteen and Zana (Mark) Heslop, daughter-in-law Laury VanderSteen, Jodie (Steven) Hayman, Wanette (Jeff) Cisowski, Victoria (Brad) Carver, and Tara (Rick) VanderSteen; and her 31 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. Jayne was preceded in death by her loving husband Wayne Lewis VanderSteen; her son Trace VanderSteen; and her grandson Seth Call.
