Eva Joyce Nichols Van Woerkom
May 27, 1929 ~ November 3, 2016
Eva Joyce Nichols Van Woerkom passed away November 3, 2016 after a short illness.
Joyce is the daughter of the late E. Lee Nichols and Hulda Clark Nichols. She was born May 27, 1929 in Blackfoot, Idaho. She attended public schools in Idaho and in Ogden, Utah. Joyce graduated from BYU with a degree in Elementary Education.
She married Melvin J. Van Woerkom, and from that union she had three sons and one daughter. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, always putting others before herself. More than anything she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Joyce was an educator and worked as a school teacher for 32 years with the Ogden City School District, teaching kindergarten and first grade. After retiring she decided to take music and organ lessons so she could conquer her fear of playing in public.
Her family, friends and former students are eternally grateful for the gift that was her life. At an early age and with strong family posterity, she developed a testimony of her Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in several callings such as secretary of the Mutual for many years, compassionate service and church organist.
Joyce was preceded in death by her spouse, loving parents and sweet daughter-in-law, Sally Ann Chugg Van Woerkom. She is survived by her sons, Scott (Dary)Van Woerkom, Friendswood, TX; Jeff (Denise) Van Woerkom, Flagstaff, AZ; and Clark (Sally) Van Woerkom, Farr West, UT; daughter, Joy (Randy) Wirick, Willard, UT; 21 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; brother, Kent C. (Florence) Nichols, Ogden, UT; sister, Lura L Robison, Farminton, UT; and a very close cousin, Doris Rounds, Ogden, UT.
Funeral services will be on November 8, 2016 at 10 a.m. at the Meadows Ward Chapel, 2280 North 3600 West, Plain City, Utah. The family will meet with friends on Monday, from 6 to 8 at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd. .
The family wishes to thank the George E. Wahlen Veterans Home and Seasons Assisted Living for their care of our mother.
