Evelyn Sophia Woodward Brooks

August 19, 1921~ March 6, 2015

A gentle and loving soul left our side to continue her eternal journey. Evelyn Sophia Brooks was born August 19, 1921 in Brigham City, Utah to Benjamin and Enga Hansen Woodward.

Evelyn’s father worked for the railroad and they lived in many places. She even had to ride the train to school. She married Harold Cunningham, having a son, Jerry. They were later divorced and she married Dale Brooks on February 28, 1944. Dale had a son, Kent, who was as her own. They had two daughters, Sandra and Diane. Evelyn and Dale were sealed in the Ogden LDS Temple on June 13, 1990.

During WWII, Evelyn worked in Vancouver, Washington as an electrician helper and also in Ogden, Utah at the Ogden arsenal. She was a waitress and seamstress, retiring for Sierra Lingerie in 1983.

Evelyn is survived by her son, Jerry (Shary) Cunningham; daughters, Sandra (Rick) Underwood and Diane Brooks; daughter-in-law Peggy Brooks; 13 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; brothers Calvin (Helen) Woodward and Leonard (Jeannine) Woodward; sister Rose Marie (Mark) Hulet. She was preceded in death by her mother and father; husband Dale; son, Kent Brooks; Sister Cleo Woodward and Ethel Kunz, brothers Alfred Woodward, Albert Woodward, George Woodward and Raymond Woodward, grandson Layne Brooks and great grandson Dalton Fowers.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday March 11, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Family will meet with friends on Wednesday between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment will be at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.

The family wishes to express their thanks to Step-Forward Hospice, Kristy and Rhonda and Dr. Justin Mansfield for the care that they showed our mother.
