Evelyn "Lyn" Shields Gwynn

September 1, 1961 ~ February 2, 2017

Evelyn Shields Gwynn, “Lyn”, passed from this life into the arms of the Lord on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at McKay-Dee Hospital in the midst of a second bout of cancer. Lyn was 55.

Lyn was born in Ayr, Scotland, on September 1, 1961, to James Robert and Margaret Wilson Shields.

On March 17, 1978, Lyn married Cody Robert Gwynn onboard USS Holland AS-32 in Holy Loch, Scotland.

Upon completion of Cody’s Navy tour, Lyn came with her family to live in the United States to make a home there, settling in Roy, Utah.

She had an amazing personality, fully outgoing, unfiltered. She knew no strangers. Lyn was totally selfless, always putting others before herself. If she had it, and you needed it, Lyn would give it to you. Lyn loved animals of all kinds, especially interacting with dolphin and Beluga whales in the water with them. She would feed her birds anywhere and everywhere.

She was baptized a member of Roy Christian Church in April 22, 2001. Her faith in the Lord was unsurpassed. She was warrior for Jesus, and a strong witness for the truth of the Gospel, and lived her life by it.

Lyn is survived by her husband, Cody of Roy; her daughter, Jessica, and ‘Son in Love’ Rodney Hammond, currently of Newport, Rhode Island; and three beautiful grandchildren, Olivia-Anne, Alexander and Jackson. She leaves behind many other relatives and dear friends in Scotland, Australia and in the US.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, February 10, 2017 at the Roy Christian Church, 4347 S. 1900 West, Roy. There will be a visitation from 11 to 12:30 p.m. at the church, with a Celebration of Life afterward.

The family would like to thank Dr. Harold Johnson and the wonderful staff at Utah Hematology, Oncology and McKay-Dee Hospital for their wonderful care.
