Evelyn Louise Grossnickle Johnson
OGDEN - Evelyn Louise Grossnickle Johnson, 90, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2013. She was born on March 8, 1923, in Ipswich, S. D. Evelyn was number 10 of 15 children born to Edward Daniel and Estella Evelyn Grossnickle.
She lived in Iowa and Minnesota before coming to Utah at age 20. That first day she met her future husband, William Johnson, in Ogden on March 8, 1943. Evelyn and Bill were married on October 9, 1943 in Delta. Their vows were later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple in 2002.
Evelyn worked tending children in her home while they were young. She then went to work at Hill Air Force Base until retiring in 1974.
Her hobbies were many. She enjoyed making quilts of her own designs.
She was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving as a temple worker, librarian, Relief Society visiting teacher, and Relief Society greeter.
Evelyn is survived by her two children, Alden Evan Johnson, North Ogden; and Louise Mary (Floyd) Gorley, East Carbon; 11 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; and brother, Bill Grossnickle, New York.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Bill Johnson; grandson, F. L. Gorley and 13 siblings.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist''s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary.
Interment, Lindquist''s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Rd.
