Evelyn Loveless

February 8, 1930 — January 24, 2018

EVELYN MARIE HILGENDORFF LOVELESS

1930 – 2018

Our loving, beautiful wife, mother, grandma and great-grandma, age 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on January 24, 2018.  She was born in Richfield, Utah on February 8, 1930 to John G. and Leora Dastrup Hilgendorff, the second of three children.  She married D. James (Jim) Loveless on December 3, 1953 and they were sealed together in the Salt Lake Temple a year later. She was the mother of six, grandmother of twenty-five and great-grandmother of thirty-one.

Evelyn lived in Richfield until about age six and then moved with her family to Provo, Utah where she spent her growing up years and was married there.  After three children were born to Jim and Evelyn, they moved to Salt Lake City where they were blessed with three more children, all in ten and half years! They moved to Bountiful, Utah in 1968 and have resided there to the present.  Her life has been filled with music.  Her father and mother were both music teachers and instilled in her a great love of music.  She started playing the violin at age three and then moved to the cello at age five. She played cello at Provo High School, where her father was the orchestra teacher.  It was there that she met a cute bass player named Jim Loveless.  She joined the Utah Symphony in 1950 and played with them for fifty-two years before retiring. She attended BYU and then graduated from the University of Utah.  She was able to travel all over Europe, South America and other places throughout the world with the symphony.  During this busy time, she raised six children and instilled in them her love for music.  She also loved camping with her family, sailing, skiing, cooking, golfing, working in the yard, hiking, sewing, reading, keeping up with children and grandchildren’s activities, traveling and having heartfelt chats with her children and grandchildren. She also served in the primary and other music callings in the LDS Church.  She was cherished by her family and will be greatly missed.

Evelyn is survived by her husband of sixty-four years, Jim, her children, Connie (David) Ewing, Alan (Michelle), Dan (MaryAnne), Roger (Linda), Kelly (Rachel), Sherilyn Boynton, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sister, Diane (Karl) Furr, and many other extended family and life-long friends.  She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Kay Hilgendorff.
