Evelyn Lavern McCoy
August 10, 1930 ~ June 28, 2018
Evelyn Lavern McCoy, 87, passed away peacefully at sunrise on Thursday, June 28th. She was born in Rawlins, WY on August 10, 1930 to her proud parents, Vern and Margaret Coleman Bottoms. She spent her school years in Rawlins, WY. Then moved to Carbondale, Illinois and back before she made her way to Utah.
Evelyn spent 25 years at the Union Pacific railroad working as a clerk/dispatcher. Her stories about walking the trains at night were priceless, but her best stories were of the little children she read to each day at the elementary school.
Evelyn was constantly on the go. You could often find her hustling her friends at the senior citizens center in a serious card game. Evelyn loved sports, especially football. She was University of Utah’s number one fan and despite her granddaughter’s ribbing still cheered for the Denver Broncos. Her friends would call her one of a kind, her family would say she had a heart of gold.
Evelyn is survived by her sons, Steve (Debby) McCoy of Mesquite, NV, and Mike McCoy of Ogden, UT; daughter, Kendra Quinn of Ogden; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her, parents, brother, Jack Bottoms; and sister, Sissy Lehti.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Jeremiah’s Restaurant at 1307 W 1200 S in Ogden on Saturday July 7th from 2:00pm – 5:00pm. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
