Evelyn Sorensen Smith Watts

May 24, 1926 ~ January 1, 2017

My beautiful, sweet, endearing Mother passed away on January 1, 2017 in the arms of her only child, Alayne, at Quail Meadows Assisted Living.  Mom was born on May 24, 1926, the second child of Walter Nephi and Elsie Payne Sorensen. She grew up on 7th Street in Ogden, Utah.  She attended Ogden City Schools and was a member of one of the first graduating classes of the new Ogden High School.

Evelyn married my father, Eugene Smith, when he returned from serving in World War II and gave birth to me after he returned from the Korean Conflict.  They later divorced.  As a single mother, she devoted herself to solely supporting and raising me to adulthood.  A talented seamstress, she made beautiful clothes for me and also my dolls!

She worked for the Ogden City School District for many years and was known as the nice, beautiful, blonde lady that sold lunch tickets to the students at the old Mound Fort Junior High School.  Later she enjoyed working for IML Freight Inc. retiring from the Teamsters Union.

In 1973 she married Wayne D. Watts.  They enjoyed thirty two wonderful years together until the time of his death.  Evelyn and Wayne lived in North Ogden since 1973 and she has remained there until the time of her passing. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Evelyn will be remembered as a loving, generous mother, a doting grandmother and great-grandmother.  She served us all and we were always in her thoughts.  She considered her family as her greatest blessing.

Evelyn is survived by daughter,  Alayne (Brad) Sutherland; four grandchildren, Tara (KC) Bramwell, Curt (Morgan) Sutherland, Kellie (Tyler) Price, and Matt (London) Sutherland, and 12 great-grandchildren, Zach, Ben, Landon, Kylee, Alex, Katelyn, Lexi, Josh, Ashton, Audrey, Aspen, and Paxton.  She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne; parents, brother, Walter (Bud) Sorensen; and her sister, Doris Frey.

I would like to thank the staff at Quail Meadows for their caring service to her the last 20 months and to Peak Hospice for their assistance in making her life more comfortable in recent months.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 6, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd.  Friends may visit family on Friday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery, 526 E. 2850 N. North Ogden.
