Ezma “Peggy” Sommer
GROTON, Conn. - Ezma Irene Peggy Chugg Sommer, of Groton, Connecticut, formally of Farr West, Utah, passed away after a short illness on Friday, December 7, 2007 in Newport News, Virginia, while visiting her granddaughter. She was born on November 9, 1923 in Farr West, Utah, the 12th child of the late Moroni Chugg and Ida Taylor Chugg. She married Leroy Robert Sommer Sr., August 12, 1943 in San Francisco, California. Their marriage was later solemnized June 28, 1944 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were married for 63 years.
She was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served for 35 years in the Young Women’s Program, 30 of those years were in the camping program. Peggy’s greatest love was the outdoors. That was her passion and camping was her element. She enjoyed working with the youth. She looked upon the young girls as “her family”. She served 2 full time missions, St. Louis Missouri and Family History Center in Salt Lake City.
She worked for 15 years for United Air Lines which gave her and her family the opportunity to travel extensively.
She was predeceased in death by her husband, her 5 brothers and 6 sisters, and grandson Zachary Caleb Briggs. She was the last of the twelve children of Moroni and Ida Chugg to leave this earth. She is survived by her son; L. Robert Sommer Jr. of Groton, CT; and her daughters; Gail Allen of Napa, CA; Laurie Kim Briggs of Groton, CT; Judy (Michael) Witham of Apple Valley, CA; Jean Sommer of Fairfield, CA; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend services on Saturday, December 15, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 North Washington Blvd., in North Ogden.
Friends may call at the mortuary on Saturday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
