Ezra R. Hadley
Ezra R. Hadley, 85, passed away Sunday, July 31, 2011 at home surrounded by his family after a seven year battle with Multiple Myeloma.
He was born February 27, 1926 in Plain City, Utah to George and Rosezell Drake Hadley. At the age of three he moved to West Weber where he lived the rest of his life.
Ezra attended Weber High School, then served two years in the U.S. Navy. After returning home he worked days at Defense Depot Ogden for 36 years while farming nights and weekends. After retiring from DDO he drove school bus for eight years. Beginning at age 70, he drove trucks for Swift Trucking for six years, and enjoyed seeing the country with his sweetheart Jean.
Being the son of a farmer he learned to work hard and make do with what he had. There was not much he could not fix with "baling twine and wyare (wire.)" He made friends wherever he went. When there was a decision to be made his advice was simply, "What a guy otta do is... ". Dad left us with a legacy of strength, and inspired us with his ability to endure challenges without complaining.
On August 14, 1946 he married Maxene Lowder. They had four children, Alan (deceased), Jan (Joe) Greenwell, Kent (deceased) (Karen), and Lori (Terry) Hales. They were later divorced.
He married Gwen Nash on May 9, 1974. She had three children Michael, Dianne and Janet. She died following an automobile accident.
He married Jean Pledger Barkdull on August 30, 1980. She had four children Howie (deceased), Susie (Craig) Smith, Karen Schroader and Linda (Mark) Harper.
Ez served faithfully in the LDS Church. He loved horse racing, cutter races, golf, BYU sports and family campouts.
He is survived by his wife, children, step-children, 18 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, sisters, Vonda Allen and Aline Hull.
